Hello I'm brand new to the game. I purchased it after a very positive article on the leading French wargaming magasine, Vae Victis. There is something I don't understand on the rules P24, Sergent L'Clerc (which by the way, is not a French name at all ) He as a body of 17 and is veteran Skills : Pistol : 68 (17x4) --> ok Rifle : 88 --> rules says on page 26 that it is supposed to be Body x experience level. I see the same difference on other characters examples, but I can't explain. Forward Observer : 78% --> supposed to be Boby x (experience level -1) so I don't get it ... I'm sure the answer is obvious, stated clearly somewhere, but I can't find it. Help much appreciated ! Thanks in advance ...
Welcome to the game. See pp. 35-40 (buying a historical force, ISAF force data and Insurgent force data).
Rifle: Every figure gets a +10 on his rifle skill. In addition, NCOs (sergeants and higher enlisted ranks) and Corporals/Lance Corporals get another +10 to their rifle skills in their experience packages. So for Sgt. Leclerc, Body x experience + rifle bonus + experience package bonus = 88.
Leclerc also gets a +10 on his morale (so 85 instead of the standard 75 for veteran experience) and a +10 on his forward observer skill (so 78 instead of 68). Corporals and Lance Corporals also get a +10 bonus on their forward observer skills.
Hello. Thanks for your reply. Where is it written that everybody gets + 10 for rifle ? The 78% for forward observer seems to be a mistake, as he comes back to 51 later in the book (body x (level -1)), but it should be 61% if he adds his NCO bonus. Correct ? Did someone made a skill calculator or character creation excel spreadsheet ?
Concerning the +10 for rifles, see the experience packages for ISAF troops (pp. 36-37) and those for insurgents (p. 39) and the force descriptions in the sample game and the two scenarios.
Concerning the forward observer skill, p. 24 says "Forward observer skill is generated by multiplying BODY x 1 experience level less than the [character's] current experience level." So Leclerc's Forward Observation skill should be 17x3+10=61. So you are correct. The example on p. 23 is in error. Again, see the experience packages on 36, 37 and 39.
